Face data
Role Credits uses your camera to identify public celebrities and actors on a screen you point it at. Here is exactly how face data is handled:
- On-device face detection. Apple's Vision framework detects the presence and location of faces entirely on your device to decide when a frame is worth analyzing. This detection never leaves your phone, is not stored, and is not used to identify who you are.
- What is sent off device. Only when a face is detected is that single camera frame sent, over an encrypted connection through our server proxy, to AWS Rekognition for the sole purpose of matching against its database of public celebrities (the RecognizeCelebrities API). The app cannot and does not identify private individuals.
- No storage or retention. Frames are processed in memory and immediately discarded. We do not store images or any face data on our servers. AWS does not store the image. Anthropic does not retain the image per its API terms.
- No face templates or biometric profiles. Role Credits does not create, save, or maintain a faceprint, face template, or biometric identifier for you or anyone else.
- No sharing beyond processing. Face data is never sold, and is never shared with any third party except the named processors above (AWS Rekognition, and Anthropic Claude for identifying the show or movie) strictly to perform the identification you requested.
- Deletion. Because nothing is retained, there is no stored face data to delete. Uninstalling the app removes all on-device data.
When you scan a frame, the image is sent to:
- AWS Rekognition (via our server proxy) to identify celebrities only — Apple's App Store Guideline 5.1.2-safe usage. AWS does not store the image.
- Anthropic Claude (via our server proxy) to identify the show or movie. Anthropic does not retain the image per their API terms.
- TMDB (directly) to fetch the actor's filmography. TMDB sees only the actor's name as a search query.
No images are stored on our servers. No user accounts. No analytics. No third-party trackers.
Your scan history (if you're a Pro user) is stored locally on your device only via Apple's SwiftData. It is not synced to any cloud and cannot be accessed by us.
Role Credits Pro is an auto-renewing subscription processed by Apple. Subscription management is handled entirely by Apple through your Apple ID; we see purchase confirmation only, never your payment details. Anonymous subscription state is managed by RevenueCat and is not tied to your identity.
Powered by TMDB. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
